Wonder #8. Keeping a Marine Warm 🇺🇸 Do you have a military member in your family?

When my friend Lorraine invited me to help assemble blankets for Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton, I said, “Yes!”

We were up and at ’em early on Saturday, heading to Irvine for a morning of service and community with 100 other volunteers  The room buzzed with energy—scissors snipping, fabric swishing across tables, and friendly chatter filling the air. There were 20 tables  filled with  rows of colorful fleece, each blanket bursting with happy patterns.

These were no-sew fleece blankets, my kind of crafting! We snipped the edges into neat strips and tied knot after knot, creating a fringe full of warmth and care. Our team’s goal was 100 blankets in just 3 hours… everyone worked with determination and cheered when we hit our target!

As I tugged each knot tight, I couldn’t help but think of the soldiers in my own family: my husband, my father, my grandfather who served in WWI, and even my 3rd great-grandfather who fought in the Civil War. Oh, how I wish I could have wrapped them in a soft, warm blanket like this—something cozy to remind them that people back home were thinking of them, cheering for them, and praying for their safe return.

These blankets will soon be in the hands of Marines who are far from familiar comforts but surrounded by the love woven into every piece of fleece.

To all our veterans, a deep and heartfelt thank you. And to the United States Marine Corps—congratulations on 250 years of courage and service. 🇺🇸
